Following previous successful engagements, it’s been full steam ahead for Advanced Flooring Systems (AFS) and Thortech as the specialist contractors recently joined forces once again to upgrade a linkspan for Steam Packet Company.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is the oldest continually operating passenger shipping company in the world, having began operations in 1830. The ferry provider required a specialist flooring contractor to upgrade an old flooring system covering a linkspan at their docks in Douglas, The Isle of Man.

Following previous successful engagements with Stena Line, Steam Packet Company turned to Thortech and AFS. With year’s of experience in surface preparation, AFS deployed their own in-house surface preparation division for this project. The existing floor was initially broken up using demolition hammers to remove the coarse top layer.

This then allowed AFS’s single head diamond grinders, hand-held grinders and vacuum assisted shot blasting, to complete the preparation on the linkspan and ensure a successful installation of a new flooring system for the Steam Packet Company.
