Advanced Flooring Systems (AFS) helped upgrade the floor and visitor walkways at the Whitehead Excursion Station.
Managed by the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland (RPSI) the Whitehead Excursion Station is the home of Ireland’s only remaining mainline steam engineering depot.
Looking after such historical and precious steam engines requires the best facilities. As such, the RSPI wanted a flooring contractor who could help them upgrade the main floor and visitor walkways in the station. AFS began the project by preparing the existing concrete substrate using their in-house surface preparation division.
Following preparation 2 coats of MPM Duroglass P5/4 in red were applied to the main floor area. After the new floor coating was successfully installed, AFS then installed a new floor system over the 200 sq metres walkways, using a chequered plate using a special steel primer from MPM – Duroglass FF4416.
With a new protective and hard wearing coatings installed in the floor and walkways, AFS has safeguarded both the station’s visitors and Ireland’s steam engines for future generations.
