AFS Surface Preparation Service
Good surface preparation is an essential part of any new flooring installation. Contaminants such as oil and grease, chemicals and paint must be removed and surface defects and irregularities removed. This is usually carried out by means of Captive Shot Blasting or mechanical planing or grinding.
Before applying any flooring system, the correct method of preparation is essential to achieve a bond between the substrate and the new floor system. Advanced Flooring Systems ensure the correct method of surface preparation is carried out at the beginning of all our flooring systems.
To achieve this our highly trained Surface Preparation division utilise a wide range of in-house preparation equipment including;
- Vacuum blaster (dust enclosed)
- Shot blaster (dust enclosed)
- Triple and single head diamond Grinders (dust enclosed)
- Scabblers (dust enclosed)
- Hand-held grinders (dust enclosed)
- Hot compressed air systems
Types of Surface Preparation
Using our in-house surface preparation equipment, Advanced Flooring Systems carry out a range of preparation to suit your project's requirements. This includes;
Vacuum blasting - Gives a range of profiles from light to heavy, suitable for application of toppings from coatings to trowelled screeds (generally the thicker the topping, the greater the profile required).
Triple headed grinding - Minimises marking of floor surface by providing a very fine textured finish suitable for lighter coatings including paint finishes, sealers
Single headed grinding - Visible markings on surface thus used for preparation for heavier (screed type) coatings
Scabbling – Used for general preparation and also for removing 3-20mm off a concrete floor slab relatively quickly as this cannot be achieved by vacuum blasting or triple head grinding
Shot blasting (open/closed) - Used for the preparation of inaccessible and vertical surfaces where other machinery cannot be used e.g. bunds, walls, ceilings and soffits
